INTERNATIONALIZATION OF STUDY PROGRAMS THROUGH JOINT ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES

 

Between September 16-18, 2024, representatives of the Public Law Department of the Law Faculty of the MSU participated as members of the master’s theses evaluation committee within the ‘Human rights and democratization’ regional program. The event was hosted by the Center for European Studies and Yerevan State University, represented by PhD Kristine GEVORGYAN, Program Coordinator and PhD Vladimir MARTIROSYAN, Academic Coordinator.

The master’s theses evaluation committee had in its composition experts from Yerevan State University and the Center for European Studies (Armenia), the Law Faculty of the Moldova State University, the American University in Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan), Tbilisi State University ‘Ivane Javakhishvili (Georgia), ‘Taras Shevchenko’ University in Kyiv (Ukraine).

The cohort of master’s students of the 2023-2024 academic year, originating from Armenia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Ukraine, the Russian Federation, Ethiopia, Ghana, Gambia, Kenya, presented their master’s theses on various topics of interest for the current social-political, legal and cultural-ideological situation. These included topics connected to the rights of migrants and refugees, domestic violence, environmental policies and perspectives, peacekeeping strategies, the rights of children in detention with their primary caregivers, the rights of juveniles deprived of their liberty, artificial intelligence and human rights, electoral rights, national and regional security, mediation, etc.

During the same period, the representatives of the partner universities presented the educational offer within the master’s programs, relevant for the master’s students of the 2024-2025 cohort, part of the regional master’s program ‘Human rights and democratization in the Caucasus’.

The MSU representatives presented the university’s educational offer and the opportunities to participate in multiple cultural and scientific events constantly organized within the institution by the academic and student community. The presentation capitalized on the partnership developed over the last years with the Global Campus of Human Rights and Global Campus Caucasus, thanks to which the teaching staff from the Public Law Department are involved in teaching two subjects (Human rights and IT regulation; European standards and practices of family and child’s rights protection) and coordinates the scientific research of the master’s students enrolled in the ‘Human rights and democratization’ program and in the ‘Public law and electronic governance’ program of the MSU.

The Habilitated Doctor of Law Rodica CIOBANU and PhD Natalia CRECIUN made a presentation of the courses taught in English at the Law Faculty of the MSU, the Master’s Program ‘Public law and electronic governane’ (Human rights and IT regulation, European standards and practices of family and child’s rights protection) and the method of strengthening skills and organizing the Climate justice and human rights spring school. Master’s students from various universities in the Caucasus region were given the opportunity to meet and become part of the community of students, master’s students, doctoral students at the MSU.

Such activities contribute substantially to the internationalization of university studies and represent unique possibilities for academic communities to build collaborative and friendly relationships and to strengthen them, through uniqueness and diversity of culture, civilization, social-political conjuncture, legal specificity.
