INTERNATIONAL LEGAL STANDARDS ON CHILDREN’S RIGHTS: ACADEMIC LECTURE WITHIN THE PUBLIC LAW MASTER’S PROGRAMME
On 12 February 2026, an online public lecture was held within the Public Law Master’s Programme of the Public Law Department, Law Faculty, Moldova State University, delivered by international expert Dr. Chiara Altafin, Global Campus Research Manager and Regional Specialist in Children’s Rights.
Entitled ‘The International Normative Framework for Children’s Rights: A Focus on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child’, the lecture was organized as part of the course ‘European Standards and Institutional Practices of Family and Child’s Rights Protection’.
The lecture provided an in-depth analysis of the legal foundations of the international system for the protection of children’s rights, addressing the core principles enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, the obligations of States Parties, as well as the mechanisms for implementation and compliance monitoring. Particular emphasis was placed on the interaction between the universal normative framework and European standards in this field, alongside their practical implications for national policies and institutional practice.
The event was attended by members of the academic staff of the Public Law Department, including Dr. Lilia Chirtoacă, Dr. Olga Baciu, and Dr. Natalia Creciun. The lecture was followed by substantive and engaging discussions, which generated strong interest among participants and contributed to a meaningful academic exchange.
Such academic initiatives play a significant role in enhancing the professional competencies of master’s students, strengthening their capacity for critical analysis of international legal standards, and promoting continuous professional development in accordance with contemporary European and international legal requirements.
