JEAN MONNET INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE:
‘CIVIC EDUCATION, EUROPEAN IDENTITY, EUROPEANIZATION: CONCEPTUAL APPROACH, PRACTICAL SIGNIFICANCE”
On March 20-21, 2026, the International Jean Monnet Conference on ‘Civic Education, European Identity, Europeanization: Conceptual Approach, Practical Significance’ was held at the Law Faculty of the Moldova State University.
The conference was organized within the framework of the Jean Monnet Project ‘Centre of Excellence’: ‘Civic Education for a Resilient Democracy’ (Project 101239922 — CERD) and brought together teachers, researchers, doctoral candidates, students and representatives of civil society from Ukraine, Romania, Moldova, Poland, Georgia, engaged in activities promoting European values.
The event was inaugurated by greeting messages from the Vice-Rector of USM, Dr. hab., Prof. Georgeta STEPANOV, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr., Prof. Sergiu BĂIEȘU, Administrator of the National Erasmus+ Office, Claudia MELINTE, Coordinator of the Jean Monnet project ‘Centre of Excellence’, Civic Education for a Resilient Democracy, Dr. hab., Assoc. Prof. Ludmila ROȘCA. In the opening speeches of the conference, the importance of partnerships and communication between the national university environment and European university networks was emphasized, in order to support the Republic of Moldova’s path to EU accession and adoption of the foundations of European culture.
The topics presented by the participants during the conference sessions focused on civic education, European identity, the role of the university in supporting democratic resilience, the security crisis, the decline of democracy and the importance of massive solidarity, including through diplomatic channels, police cooperation, peace promotion, the model of European legal communication, economic relationships in the European space, psychological resilience, etc.
The event was attended by members of the Department of Public Law of the Law Faculty of the Moldova State University, of the Laboratory of Scientific Research ‘Comparative Public Law and E-Government’, who presented results obtained within the project ‘Strengthening socio-economic and legal mechanisms to ensure the well-being and security of citizens (CONSEJ, 01.05.02)’.
The conference was held in a format of discussions on topics relevant to the European cultural space, being an opportunity to reaffirm the commitment of the Moldova State University and the Faculty of Law in the process of accession of the Republic of Moldova to the EU.
